Access Statement for Kipps Backpackers

Introduction

We are a 46 bedded hostel situated in the historic City of Canterbury offering private to dormitory rooms.
  The hostel is situated in a 120 year old Victorian House
  The hostel is situated over 2 floors.
 
Pre-Arrival

• The nearest Train Stations are Canterbury East and Canterbury  
  West. Canterbury East is the closest station being only a 5 minute 
  walk to the hostel.  Please note Canterbury West is approx. 30
  minute walk to the hostel as it is on the other side of town.
• The Main Bus station is situated approx 10 minuite walk up hill to the
   hostel. The bus service to the Canterbury Hospital will drop you   
   outside the hostel. 
• A Local taxi service has accessible taxis if required

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• We have a small driveway which has 2 spaces for 2 cars.
• There is ample on street parking available, with restrictions
• No parking for coaches, please contact the hostel for coach parking
  in Canterbury
• Please try to provide advance notice if assistance will be needed to move in from cars


Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area

• There are 5 steps leading up to the front door and a small step at the
   front door 
• Seating is available in the Lounge opposite reception
• Payphone available with additional seating
• A Pager system is in place outside reception to alert a member of
  staff 24 hours a day/ 7 days per week 
 
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

• Good colour contrast to floor, walls and doorways throughout the
  building 
• Well lit corridors 
• Floor covering is carpet, vinyl and woodflooring
• Wi-Fi throughout the hostel / Free internet PC available in the
  Lounge on the ground floor

 
Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

• Level wheel chair access to lounge and dining room 
• Dining Room has 1 large wooden table - space is restrictive. Flooring 
  is concrete tiles
• The Lounge is a large space with large table with removable chairs.
  Flooring is wood flooring
 
Public WCs

• Ground Floor - 1 Bathroom - WC, Bath/Shower and sink (Non
  pedestal) - Limited space
• 1st Floor - Staircase leads to 1st floor WC and seperate Shower.
 
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area, Take Away & Cafe

• We do not have a Restaurant, just the self catering Kitchen 
• Meals can be provided on certain nights - please contact us for further information


Laundry

• A Laundry service is available from reception
 
Shop

• We have a small shop offering drinks and confectionary.   We also
  have some tinned supplies and basic ammenities

• We do not have any treatment rooms

• 1 x5 Bedded Room - 2 Bunk Beds & 1 Single Bed.  Wash Basin in the room. Shared Bathroom 
• 1x7 Bedded Room - 3 Bunk Beds & 1 High Single Bunk Bed. Small Ensuite Shower Room
 
FIRST FLOOR  Staircase to 1st floor  and 2 steps leading up to these rooms
• 2 Double Rooms/ 1 Triple Room and 2 Single Rooms - Wash Basins in all rooms - Shared WC and Shower Room
 
• There are 3 steps leading up to these rooms from the staircase
• 1x6 Bedded Room- 2 Bunk Beds/ 2 Single Beds/ Ensuite Bathroom 
• 1x8 Bedded Room - 4 Bunk Beds/ Ensuite Bathroom 

SECOND FLOOR   Staircase to this floor 
• 1x8 Bedded Room -3 Bunk Beds and 2 Single Beds - Large Ensuite

Self-Catering Kitchen

• Level wheel chair access to self catering kitchen
• There are 2 free standing electric ovens and 1 hob.
• There are 3 fridges and a microwave
• All cutlery, utensils etc are supplied
• The flooring is vinyl
 
Grounds and Gardens

• There are 5 steps leading from the dining room to the garden 
• The Garden is not level
 
Additional Information

• No pets or dogs 
• No Smoking 
• A Member of staff is always available on site, including at night (Pager system for emergencies)
• Emergency Lighting and fire alarms fitted. We ensure that all guests are evacuated in the event of a fire or any emergency requiring evacuation
• Evacuation Procedures shown in each bedroom, pictoral and written
